How Much Fake Turf Do You Need?

 Measuring for artificial grass

When thinking about your artificial grass calculator, you will need to think of measuring your outdoor space in metre squares, much like a carpet!

The range of artificial lawns at Astro Warehouse are all supplied in three ways. They can either be supplied as a full roll measuring 4 metres by 25 metres. Or the fake grass can be cut to size using either 2 metre or 4 metre widths.

You will need to measure your garden in the most effective way based on these sizes. You are aiming for the least number of joins, which will make the installation process easier.

Gardens come in a range of shapes and sizes. The easiest method for calculating how much fake grass you need is the basic square or rectangle shaped garden.

Artificial grass calculator for square or rectangle shaped garden

For your fake grass calculator in this shaped garden, simply measure the length of your garden by the width and multiply these two measurements together to give you the area. For example, a garden measuring 5 metres long by 3 metres wide will need 15 square metres artificial grass to cover this area.

Don’t forget that we only supply in widths of 2 metres or 4 metres which may mean you need to round up one of your measurements. In our above example, you would need to order a piece of false grass measuring 4 metres by 5 metres giving you a 20 metre square area of synthetic grass.

If you have a garden that tapers off at the top or bottom, you can still use the fake grass calculator as mentioned above. Measure your space in the same way making sure to measure the widest and longest part in metres. There will be some left over grass once you have finished installing.

Artificial grass calculator for a circular shaped garden

For circular shaped gardens you can use the same artificial grass calculator as above. Simply measure the width and the length of your circular shaped garden and multiply these measurements together to get the area of your lawn.

Your synthetic grass will be supplied as a rectangular shape which you will then need to cut into shape.

Artificial grass calculator for an L-shaped garden

L-shaped gardens are not as complicated as you might think. First split your outdoor shape into two rectangle shapes. Use the same fake grass calculator as above to calculate the longest rectangular section first. If for example this measures 3 metres in width and 6 metres in length, this gives you 18 metres square for the first rectangle.

Use the same artificial grass calculator for the shorter rectangle of the L. For example, let’s say this measures 2 metres in width and 3 metres in length, it will give you an area of 6 metres square for the second rectangle.

Now add the two area rectangles together to give you the total amount of is square metres that you need – in this example – 24 metres square.
